The cabo de gata-nijar nature park not only gives protection to 45 km. Of coastline but also includes 12,000 hectares of sea. The sea bottom, the underwater continuation of the volcanic mountain range of gata, is extremely beautiful. The waters in this area are densly populated with great meadows of sea grass (posidonia oceanica), the major source of life for the mediterranean sea, generating around itself a vast production of many species such as sea horses, cuttle fish, dorados, sepia, etc…as well as guranteeing the cristal transparency of the sea during the whole year.

In the area of cabo de gata the sea currents of the mediterranean flow together with those of the atlantic ocean, resulting in waters rich with placton and encouraging the presence of various pelagic species and a great diversity of fish, such as sea eagles, coral fish, barracudas, etc. Etc. The great range of flora and fauna typical of the mediterranean would not be complete without groupers, moray, conger eels, anemone, nudibranquios, etc.etc.
